About the event

Chomolungma is a raw and intimate look at grief in our relationship with the natural world. It amplifies how the humanness of our ego brings us to the peaks of conquering mountains and how that human desire to conquer is ultimately our demise; amplifying the focus on the ones left behind.

The one-act follows a real time conversation between two close friends, Danielle and Prasima. Danielle is in deep grief over the loss of her husband to a failed attempt at Mount Everest. Prasima finds Danielle sitting on a park bench in Central Park and confronts her about her relationship with grief, in an effort to cultivate resolve and healing.

Chomolungma was first produced in New York City in 2018 as a part of ShrillFest at MCS Theatre. It is written by Molly

Jones and takes inspiration from the 2017 New York Times Article “Deliverance From 27,000 Feet” by John Branch.
